Shadowing Day with the NHS England Digital Partnering Team

Some of our wonderful alumni members took part in a shadowing day with the NHS England Digital Partnering Team. Elohor Uwadiogbu (Clinical Research Nurse) and Dian Bates (Diabetes/Obesity/PMA) have shared their reflections with us.
The opportunity to shadow the Digital Partnering team was both inspiring and impactful, thanks to their willingness to share their expertise and enlighten us about their individual roles. Specifically, I gained an understanding of their processes and delivery models, including how they support frontline staff in utilizing various digital solutions as well as acting as an interface between NHSE and staff members.
During the session, the team engaged in extensive knowledge sharing about areas such as their transformation journey, the change management toolkit, and the tools they utilize to manage and facilitate change within and outside the organization. This not only showcased their technical proficiency but also demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement and adaptation in a dynamic environment.
Overall, this shadowing experience has significantly increased my knowledge of various digital systems, such as ED streaming and redirection, and how they can improve outcomes for service users. Additionally, my perspective on digital service delivery in the healthcare sector was influenced, highlighting the importance of effective communication and support systems for frontline staff, which are paramount for the overall success of healthcare initiatives.Elohor Uwadiogbu, Shuri Alumni
The shadowing session was an enlightening experience that provided valuable insights and showcased your exemplary leadership. The supportive attitude of the NHS digital team was incredibly reassuring and inspiring.
The networking opportunity at the end was much appreciated, allowing us to connect with your wonderful team and learn about their impactful work. The session was highly informative, offering a deeper understanding of your processes, delivery models, and the tools used to support frontline staff and manage change.
This experience has significantly enhanced my knowledge of digital systems, such as ED streaming and redirection. It also underscored the importance of effective communication and support systems for the success of healthcare initiatives. Your dedication and the chance to engage with your team were highlights of the day. This shadowing day was immensely beneficial, broadening my perspective on digital service delivery in healthcare.Dian Bates, Shuri Alumni
Joint statement from The Shuri Network and Digital Health
Reported racist remarks said to have been made by Frank Hester, CEO of health software company TPP, inciting violence against the UK’s longest serving black MP Diane Abbott have resulted in widespread condemnation. A Guardian report on Monday, 11 March, reported Hester making the comments at a 2019 TPP company meeting. The Shuri Network and Digital Health issued a joint statement on the 12th of March: “Frank’s reported comments are misogynistic, racist and unacceptable. They also shine a light on the bigger questions we as the NHS and an informatics community need to address: where do we draw the line on working with organisations? And what action can we collectively do to stop this and enable positive change?
“These remarks stand in stark contrast to the values we champion: diversity, inclusion, and respect within the digital health sector. We are committed to not only addressing these issues head-on but also to fostering a culture where such views are openly challenged and corrected. In light of this, we are clling upon our community at Rewired 2024 to join us to develop actionable steps toward a more inclusive environment.
“We have a joint responsibility, at all levels of the NHS – national leaders to those working within healthcare settings – to speak out and challenge views that have no place in our industry. We urge delegates at Rewired over the next two days and those not attending, to use this opportunity to come together as a community to debate and agree what should happen next. Together, we can turn this moment into a catalyst for real and lasting progress.”
The British Medical Journal published an article by our Chair, Dr Shera Chok on racism and misogyny in digital health in March 2024.
